20.7.08

Machu Picchu

The ruins are amazing, enough said

19.7.08

Machu Picchu Pueblo

First Machu Picchu Pueblo, also commonly called aguas Calientes (though many locals don´t seem to recognize this name) is built for tourists. It was supposed to be a very ugly town according to Lonley planet and people ive met who had seen it years back. Apparently a lot of work has been done to spiff this place up.

13.7.08

Iquitos

I arrived in Iquitos by boat, the only good way to arrive in a city surrounded by jungle and not connected to other parts of the continent by road. Its a city of about 500,000 people, and happened to be the place where I spent most of my time on my short vacation in Peru.

Cajamarca

A pretty and tranquile city in the Andes where there isnt much to do but walk the streets and go to the baños del Inca.

Trujillo

The rather large colonial city is close to the pacific ocean and is sorrounded by stunning ruins such as Chan Chan.

5.6.08

Huaraz

Huaraz is the ugly city high in the Andes that attracts people that want to treck in some of the most beautiful terrain.

31.5.08

Miraflores, Lima

The first place I stayed in Lima was in the Miraflores neighborhood. This is the rich costal neighborhood that appears to be a wealthy neighborhood much like those of Western Europe and North America, but it still has a feel that makes you know you´re still in Latin America.

The trip is to take 70 days and all i know is that i will be arriving and leaving from Lima, simply because is where the cheapest flights were to and from. I am writing all these entries based on notes and journal writing well after the trip began.
